• Truly the Will of Heaven
  • Gyung-suk went to Gu-rit-gohl Village and told Hyung-yul why he had come, but Hyung-yul refused to let him have the implements, explaining,
  • “My daughter is at the brink of death.”
  • “You will meet misfortune if you do not follow decisions made in the work of renewing heaven and earth,” Gyung-suk said.
  • “If this decision was indeed made in the work of renewing heaven and earth, there will be a sign,” Hyung-yul retorted. “If there is no sign, I will not believe you.”
  • When word of Hyung-yul’s refusal reached Tae-mo-nim, She drew the sun and moon on paper and then with both index fingers made gestures toward the sky.
  • From the clear sky came a flash of lightning, a crack of thunder, and a sudden downpour. The lightning shot into the medicine room and then circled the whole house.
  • When Hyung-yul saw this, he was startled and recalled that Sahng-jeh-nim once said, “If your household is heading for ruin, start anew by throwing everything away. If you hold on to possessions thinking they are precious, your body will be ruined.”
  • Hyung-yul said to Gyung-suk, “It truly is the will of heaven. Take what you will.”
