• Making a Disabled Man Walk
  • One day, when Sahng-jeh-nim was in Gu-rit-gohl Village, a man called Gim, from Yohng-muh-ree Hill, was brought to Him on a stretcher.
  • The man earnestly pleaded, “Having committed too many transgressions in my previous lives, I have been without the use of my legs since birth. If I go on like this, I will continue to live in sorrow; and if I die now, my life will have been miserable.
  • People do not know the pain and sorrow of a disabled person. Only heaven knows. Please grant me a new life.” He shed tears like rain as he spoke of his sorrow.
  • Sahng-jeh-nim listened with compassion. He had the man sit in front of Him, and
  • as Sahng-jeh-nim raised His long pipe, He had Hyung-yul recite:
  • 曳鼓神 曳彭神 石蘭神
    東西南北 中央神將
    造化造化云 吾命令裔
  • Yeh-go-shin Yeh-paeng-shin Sung-nahn-shin
    Dohng-suh-nahm-book Joong-ahng-shin-jahng
    Jo-hwa-jo-hwa-oon Oh-myung-nyung-hoom.
  • Sahng-jeh-nim then told the man to run around the yard and told Gim Gwahng-chahn to hit his legs with a switch to make him move faster.
  • Suddenly, the man was cured, and in rapture he ran around the yard like a madman, yelling, “If God did not come to the world, how could this be?”
  • Barely holding back his tears, he did not know how to repay Sahng-jeh-nim.
  • Sahng-jeh-nim accepted thirty nyahng from him and went to an inn by the main road. He called out to the passersby and bought them rice wine. Sahng-jeh-nim said, “Thank you for straightening his legs.”
