• Mountain Spirits Clear Sahng-jeh-nim’s Pathway
  • Entering a deep valley, Sahng-jeh-nim remarked, “It is said that when the mountain is high, the valley is deep.” He called out, “Da-dohk.”
    “Yes?” said a voice.
  • Sahng-jeh-nim called out again, “Come out, Da-dohk.”
    “Yes.”
  • The mountain shook and an area that had been blocked by thick woods and tangled underbrush suddenly parted, making a wide path that had not been seen before. As Sahng-jeh-nim and Ho-yun walked along the path, Ho-yun asked, “Who is Da-dohk?”
  • Sahng-jeh-nim said, “Someone who thumps along, da-dohk da-dohk―that’s where he gets his name.”
  • Further along the path, Sahng-jeh-nim said, “Come out, Uh-bik. Come out here and guide us.”
“Yes,” said another voice, and a stick that looked like a spatula appeared, standing up straight.
  • “You are playing with Me!” Sahng-jeh-nim slapped the stick on the left side. It took on the shape of a human. Eyes blinking, the spirit kneeled and bowed.
  • Sahng-jeh-nim asked, “Have you not seen Da-dohk?”
    “I have,” the spirit replied.
  • “I see. How many did he say were coming?”
“He said there would be four,” the spirit answered. “Why are there only two of you?”
  • “You have two eyes, do you not? Count for yourself. Dead or living, carry out a task only after you have clearly seen the people. How can you lead people to heaven in such a state?”
  • 10 On another mountain, Sahng-jeh-nim stamped His left foot and part of the mountain collapsed, causing an avalanche.
  • 11 Then, He said, “Moong-shil, Moong-shil, Moong-shil, come to My bosom.”
A spirit appeared and said, “Round Moong-shil, round Moong-shil. I am round. Here I am.” Sahng-jeh-nim gave the spirit an order.
