• When the Emperor Is Present
  • Before Sahng-jeh-nim had finished speaking, the chief magistrate of the township, whose name was Yahng, and the chief magistrate of the village came to collect taxes.
  • Sahng-jeh-nim rebuked them loudly, “Who would dare to come collecting taxes when the emperor is present!
  • I am about to perform a work of renewal to set the world right. Why are you participating in such a plot?”
  • Alarmed, the two officials left. They went to the police station in Go-bu and reported that dozens of people had gathered in Wa-ryohng Village for a great undertaking. Four policemen went there to secretly investigate.
  • Sahng-jeh-nim assembled the remaining twenty-one disciples. Among them were Gim Hyung-yul, Gim Ja-hyun, Moon Gohng-shin, Bahk Jahng-geun, and Ee Hwa-choon.
  • He told Hyung-yul, “Go to Gohng-shin’s house with Ja-hyun and remain there. I will stay at Shin Gyung-su’s house.”
  • Before leaving for Gyung-su’s house, Sahng-jeh-nim said to Hyung-yul,
  • “When policemen come and ask about My whereabouts, do not hide anything. Tell them the truth.” Everyone thought this was very strange.
