• The Dohk-jo-sa Program,
    Bringing Forth the True Master
  • After Gohng-shin was released from prison, the owner of the inn where Sahng-jeh-nim and the disciples often ate arrived unannounced at Gohng-shin’s house. The innkeeper laid claim to Gohng-shin’s possessions, saying that it was he who owed the money for the meals.
  • Gohng-shin had thought Sahng-jeh-nim would pay the innkeeper when He recovered the confiscated money and fabric from the police.
  • Gohng-shin had already contributed a large amount of money, and now, having had all of his possessions taken, he was left without even a single spoon. He harbored deep resentment and planned to confront Sahng-jeh-nim.
  • The next time Sahng-jeh-nim came, Gohng-shin brought up everything that had embittered him and angrily hurled insults.
  • With His head lowered, Sahng-jeh-nim listened to Gohng-shin and then said, “Have you finished?”
“Yes,” Gohng-shin said, anger still unabated.
  • “I hear you and I understand how you feel,” said Sahng-jeh-nim. “I first met you in Nohng-ba-ooh Village, where I had stayed for three days, and since that time, you have participated in many works of renewal. I have assigned the Program of Yi Yin to you.
  • When I started the Go-bu Program, I could not find anyone else equal to the task. That is why I assigned that program to you and also put you in charge of the Dohk-jo-sa Program.
  • In the gambling game True Master, the gambler called dohk-jo-sa is unable to win a single hand all night, and when he loses everything, he claims a tip from the winners. Finally, he manages to recover his money by dawn. When the scores are the same, the hand with the horse in it takes the pot.
  • In Go-bu, you already mentioned the cost of the meals. But if I had used the money for the meals, you would not have become the Dohk-jo-sa.
  • 10 If you really need money, I will give you some; but if I do, I will have to transfer the program to someone else.”
  • 11 “The money has already been spent,” Gohng-shin thought. “It would be ridiculous to lose the program as well.” He said to Sahng-jeh-nim, “If that is the case, then please leave things as they are.”
