• A Test for Cha Gyung-suk
  • On January 2, 1909, Sahng-jeh-nim said to Cha Gyung-suk, “On the third, we will hold a chee-sung with an offering to the spirits of heaven and earth.”
  • At this time, Cha Moon-gyung, who had been drinking, walked through the streets, shouting, “At Gyung-suk’s house, a person named Gahng is plotting a revolution!”
This was heard at the nearby Japanese army station, so soldiers were to be dispatched.
  • Knowing this, Sahng-jeh-nim said to Gyung-suk and Su-bu-nim, “Guard the house, and at midnight, seal the doors. You will do the offering in My place.
  • Cook the food inside on a firepot, and open the bottles of alcohol. Then, pray in your mind with utmost devotion. This will be the offering.” Sahng-jeh-nim then left for Bee-ryohng Village to visit Cha Yoon-gyung, Gyung-suk’s brother.
  • On the third at dawn, Gyung-suk and Su-bu-nim finished making the offering. As the sun rose, dozens of armed soldiers rushed into the house. They threatened Gyung-suk, demanding that he inform them of Sahng-jeh-nim’s whereabouts.
  • Gyung-suk answered evasively, “He is a Healer who came to my house a few days ago and left. I don’t know where He is now.”
  • They beat Gyung-suk, but he suffered no serious injury.
