• After a Long Time and Much Difficulty
  • In the spring of 1909, while staying in Gu-rit-gohl Village, Sahng-jeh-nim conducted a work of renewal in which He had a lantern hung from the eaves.
  • He said, “Escape happens after a long time and much difficulty.” Then, He recited a poem:
  • 面分雖舊心生新 只願急死速亡亡
    虛面虛笑去來間 不吐心情見汝矣
  • You and I have known each other for so long,
    yet each time we meet, our minds are renewed.
  • We desire quick ruin and quick death.
  • We pass by each other with empty smiles.
    I am unable to show you my mind.
  • 歲月汝遊劒戟中 往劫忘在十年乎
    不知而知知不知 嚴霜寒雪大鴻爐
  • You―months and years―pass by in this disastrous war.
  • Have you forgotten that this war should end within a decade?
  • People do not know my work, but know;
    people know my work, but do not know.
  • When this hardship ends,
    it will end like frost and snow melting in a firepot.
