• Places to Sleep During Travels
  • During His travels, as night came, Sahng-jeh-nim would say, “Where will we sleep tonight?”
  • He often slept beside a big rock. Sometimes, He would sleep in someone’s barn or at a water mill.
  • In summer, He would sleep in graveyards He came across on His way.
  • In winter, He would sometimes sleep in a temporary grave.
  • Once, when He and Ho-yun slept in such a grave, using the straw covers as blankets, with the coffin between them, Ho-yun complained, “Phew, it smells. I’m scared.”
“Do not say that,” Sahng-jeh-nim said. “If you say it smells, it will really smell. Do not say anything.”
  • Reaching across the top of the coffin, He held her hand tightly. He slept resting His head on the coffin.
