- Ho-yun Fights with Hyung-yul’s Daughter
- 1 On Dahn-oh Day, in 1904, Sahng-jeh-nim and Ho-yun went to Hyung-yul’s house in Gu-rit-gohl Village. That day happened to be Hyung-yul’s birthday.
- 2 Hyung-yul’s third daughter and Ho-yun were playing together in the guest room, when the daughter hit Ho-yun.
- 3 “Who are you to hit me?” Ho-yun said, not wanting anyone to get the better of her. Then, she poked the daughter’s forehead, making a hole, which started to bleed.
- 4 The daughter ran out crying. Aghast, Hyung-yul said, “What happened to you?”
“Ho-yun did this!”
- 5 He wiped away the blood. “With what did she do this?”
“The girl poked me with her finger.”
- 6 “How could a child’s finger make this hole just by touching you? This is our Teacher’s power of creative change. After following the Teacher around, creative power has been attached to her hand.”
- 7 He cautioned, “Do not hit her, thinking that she is only a child. Do not even go near her.”
- 8 This made the daughter very cross. She looked at him with a sidelong glance and complained, “You brought a girl from somewhere and treat her like gold or jade.”
- 9 Ho-yun overheard this and ran to Sahng-jeh-nim in a huff to tell Him about it.
- 10 Sahng-jeh-nim calmed her and asked, “Was that a bad thing to hear?” Patting Ho-yun gently, He continued, “Don’t blame her. Don’t blame her. You are higher than she.”
- 11 Still not satisfied, Ho-yun crouched in a corner of the room. “Don’t be like that,” Sahng-jeh-nim said and told the disciples, “Someone take Ho-yun away and comfort her.”
- 12 Ho-yun said, “Usually, You do not even let people call my name. Who is he to take me away? I won’t go!” Obstinate, Ho-yun would not move.
- 13 “Bring in the injured child,” Sahng-jeh-nim said to someone.
Sahng-jeh-nim was about to scold the daughter, when she said, “I am sorry.”
- 14 Ho-yun, referring to something she had overheard, complained, “You are going to marry her. That’s why You favor her.”
- 15 “Where did you hear that?” Sahng-jeh-nim asked. “Since you have said it, I will really have to take her as My bride.”
