• Sahng-jeh-nim Bestows a Poem of Enlightenment
  • Gim Chahng-yuh of Gu-rit-gohl Village, having suffered from indigestion for several years, could hardly eat.
  • Feeling compassion for him, Sahng-jeh-nim had him lie on a low wooden platform in the yard and rubbed his stomach. He then had Hyung-yul recite:
  • 調來天下八字曲 淚流人間三月雨
    葵花細甚能補袞 萍水浮踵頻泣鱇
  • I sing the song of people’s fate.
Tears flow in the human world like March rain.
  • I possess the attentive devotion of a sunflower
    and could serve a king.
Drifting like floating grass, I often weep sadly.
  • 一年月明壬戌秋 萬里雲迷太乙宮
    淸音蛟舞二客簫 往强烏飛三國塵
  • The brightest moon is in the autumn of Im-sool.
Clouds stretching ten thousand lee hide the Tae-eul Palace.
  • A dragon-snake dances to the bamboo flutes of two travelers.
With the onset of tribulations, crows fly
and three nations stir up wind and dust.
After this, Chahng-yuh recovered from his indigestion.
