• Gim Ja-hyun Becomes a Disciple
  • Gim Ja-hyun, a relative of Hyung-yul’s in Gu-rit-gohl Village, had suffered from ulcers on his leg for three years. He had tried every method to cure them, but without success. Finally, his leg was to be amputated.
  • 13 Ja-hyun came to Sahng-jeh-nim and said, “I will try whatever medicine You recommend.”
  • 14 Sahng-jeh-nim said, “Dig up seven Chahng-chool roots in the mountain, boil them, and wash the affected area with the liquor. Buy five bars of rice taffy in Wun-pyung market, pound them together, and apply them to the ulcers.”
  • 15 Right away, Ja-hyun dug up the roots and bought five bars of taffy, one of which, however, his son Tae-joon ate without permission.
  • 16 Ja-hyun pounded together just four bars of taffy and applied them. Within fifteen days, his leg was free of ulcers.
  • 17 Grateful, he brought Sahng-jeh-nim some specially prepared food.
  • 18 After receiving him warmly, Sahng-jeh-nim examined the leg and found a scar the size of a bar of rice taffy.
  • 19 Sahng-jeh-nim smiled. “Because you used only four bars of taffy, the fifth bar is stuck to your leg.”
  • 20 Ja-hyun became more in awe of Sahng-jeh-nim and pledged to follow Him for the rest of his life.
