• The Theft of Tae-mo-nim’s Sacred Remains
  • Tae-mo-nim ascended at the Hour of the Ox on October 6, 1935.
  • On the ninth, Min-hwahn laid Her remains to rest in a remote place on the northern side of Oh-sung Mountain and guarded the grave with other disciples.
  • In 1961, on July 25 or 26, Tae-mo-nim’s sacred remains were stolen.
  • Min-hwahn anguished over this by himself. He searched in secret but could not find them even though he looked everywhere, causing him to suffer anxiety and distress for some time.
  • Later, he discussed the matter with the surviving disciples, and together they decided to report the theft to the authorities.
  • On September 20, early in the evening, Min-hwahn sat alone still agonizing over the matter.
  • Eventually, he started to doze. He was between wakefulness and sleep when Tae-mo-nim appeared to him, looking just as She had when She was alive.
  • She said to him, “Think of what happened to Sahng-jeh-nim’s sacred remains while we were in Jung-eup. Do not worry too much.” Then, She disappeared.
  • After this, Min-hwahn resumed searching discreetly for the person who had stolen the remains. One day, he decided he should speak with a follower of another spiritual organization, Chey Jung-hyun, whom he suspected.
  • 10 Min-hwahn was told that the man could be reached through Suh Myung-ohk of Goon-sahn County.
  • 11 Min-hwahn went to Goon-sahn, but Jung-hyun’s whereabouts were unknown. This made Min-hwahn even more suspicious.
  • 12 Since the resumption of the search, Min-hwahn had been in communication with Jun Seh-yoon, a follower from the time of the Oh-sung Mountain Dojang. One day, Seh-yoon sent a message: “Chey Jung-hyun is now here in Goon-sahn.” Together, they immediately left for the house where Jung-hyun was staying.
  • 13 As soon as they entered, they met face to face with him. After being pressed for information, Jung-hyun confessed to the crime and pleaded for mercy.
  • 14 Immediately, they had him lead them to the remains, buried near Yohng-hwa Temple, in Jeh-bee-chahng Valley.
  • 15 There, they made an offering to Tae-mo-nim. Those present were Jun Sun-pil, Jun Seh-yoon, and Go Min-hwahn.
