- The Entreaty of All the Spirits of Sages
- 1 “This new civilization, however, came to know only material things and rational understanding. It fostered arrogance and brutality. Trying to conquer nature with power strong enough to shake heaven and earth, it committed every form of wickedness.
- 2 “The authority of the way of spirits was lost, and the three realms fell into great disorder. Human affairs and the way of heaven went off course.
- 3 That is why Matteo Ricci assembled the spirits of sages, buddhas, and bodhisattvas. They came up to the ninth heaven to entreat Me to address the deep suffering of humans and spirits.
- 4 “Thus, I came down to the canopy tower in the nation of great law in the West. Accompanied by Matteo Ricci, I surveyed the three realms. After traveling throughout the whole world, I stopped in this Eastern land, Korea.
- 5 For thirty years, I stayed at the Maitreya statue of Geum-sahn Temple on Mo-ahk Mountain, where Monk Jin-pyo, after being awakened to the coming of Maitreya Buddha as foretold by Shakyamuni Buddha, had devoted his life to My incarnation.”

- 6 “At the Maitreya Shrine, I gave Chey Su-oon a heavenly mandate and endowed him with Spirit Teaching so that he could establish the great dao.
- 7 However, he was unable to move beyond the boundaries of Confucianism to bring forth true dharma. He could not direct the way of spirits and human culture to establish the great dao.
- 8 Therefore, in 1864, I withdrew the mandate and Spirit Teaching from him. Finally, in 1871, I came to the world as a human.
- 9 ‘Sahng-jeh’ in Su-oon’s writings and songs refers to Me.”
