• A Great Disturbance Caused by Jahng Hyo-soon
  • On January 15, 1904, Sahng-jeh-nim lay down half asleep after drinking some alcohol.
  • A man named Jahng Hyo-soon rushed into the house to beg Sahng-jeh-nim to cure his grandchild, who had suddenly become critically ill.
  • Sahng-jeh-nim, lying on His back, said in a sleepy voice, “Give the child some fresh, cold water to drink.”
  • When Hyo-soon did as instructed, the child suddenly died.
  • Hyo-soon, nicknamed Sky Shaker because of his violent temper, was enraged and bore a grudge against Sahng-jeh-nim.
  • Hyo-soon declared, “My grandchild is dead because He intentionally gave me the wrong prescription. I have seen one touch of His hand revive a dead man and one word from His mouth cure someone on the verge of death.
  • He must have killed my grandchild on purpose. With that man’s dao mastery, a handful of earth, let alone a glass of water, could have cured the child.”
  • After capturing Him, Hyo-soon bound Sahng-jeh-nim’s hands behind His back and dragged Him toward the government office. On the way, Hyo-soon, seeming to regret his action, unexpectedly untied Sahng-jeh-nim and said,
  • “I am the one at fault here. The child simply died of a sudden illness. How can I blame You?” Wanting to be back on good terms with Sahng-jeh-nim, Hyo-soon invited Him to stay at his house.
  • 10 Sahng-jeh-nim declined the offer, explaining that He had planned to stay with Suh Wun-gyu. That night, He stayed at Wun-gyu’s house, but early the following morning went to Ee Jik-bu’s.
  • 11 Hyo-soon went to Wun-gyu’s house, expecting to see Sahng-jeh-nim. Unable to find Him there, he shouted in anger, “the murderer has escaped!” He searched for Sahng-jeh-nim everywhere.
