• Sahng-jeh-nim’s Concern About Ho-yun’s Spiritual Ability
  • By the time she finished this period of meditation, Ho-yun could understand the sounds of spirits and the voices of animals.
  • Once, Sahng-jeh-nim asked, “What did the magpie that came by earlier say?”
  • “It said that a person from Yuh-su is bringing fish, but isn’t bringing much money,” Ho-yun answered, and later this happened.
  • One night, when Sahng-jeh-nim and the disciples were sitting in the medicine room, Chahn-moon’s wife, who was originally from Go-sahn, came with a bowl of rice crust in water and left it outside the back door.
  • Mice came and knocked over the bowl. Startled, the mice scurried off. As the disciples hurriedly tried to clean it up, Ho-yun clutched her stomach in laughter.
  • “Why are you laughing so hard?” Sahng-jeh-nim asked.
Ho-yun answered, “The little mouse squeaked, ‘There is too much water. I cannot eat it.’ The mother mouse said, ‘Knock over the bowl with your foot like this and pick up the food.’
  • The little mouse could not knock over the bowl, so the mother mouse did it. When water splashed everywhere, the mice got scared and ran away. Everyone here is making a fuss, and they don’t even know what happened. Isn’t that funny?”
  • Hearing this, Sahng-jeh-nim said to Hyung-yul, “She can understand what animals say. If I leave her as she is, there will be trouble. What should I do with her?”
  • He continued, “It would be a shame if I had to make her into an idiot. It would mean My promise to her parents was empty and that I was untrustworthy.
  • 10 But, left as she is, she might spoil our work after we are gone. What should I do?”
  • A Promise to Ho-yun’s Parents
  • 11 When Sahng-jeh-nim first took Ho-yun into His care, He promised her parents,
  • 12 “This child will be immortalized and even grandfathers will kneel before her. She will really become an extraordinary person. Please leave her in My care.”
  • 13 From that time on, He had Ho-yun, an innocent and pure girl, take part in the nine-year work of renewal, using her qi in opening the yin world of autumn.
  • 14 She and Hyung-yul, the host of the work, bore witness to the work of renewal.
