• Sahng-jeh-nim Suffers a Great Hardship
on Behalf of the Workers of Heaven and Earth
  • Because of what Sahng-jeh-nim had said, the policemen humiliated Him, beating Him even harder.
  • Moon Gohng-shin looked at Sahng-jeh-nim and saw His breasts swell like a woman’s. Surprised, the policemen momentarily stopped striking Him.
  • Then, they resumed beating Sahng-jeh-nim, and His body became covered with blood. With His eyes almost bulging out of their sockets, He finally passed out, biting on His tongue.
  • The policemen untied Sahng-jeh-nim’s hair, took Him down from the crossbeam, and locked Him in the cell with the others.
  • A policeman asked the disciples, “Who is the owner of the house?”
Gohng-shin stepped forward. “I am the owner.”
A policeman named Bahk came over to Gohng-shin and said, “This one is no different.” The policeman kicked him hard in the chest.
  • “I will die if they beat me the way they beat my Teacher,” Gohng-shin thought. Pretending to faint, he dropped to the floor.
  • A policeman named Moon criticized Bahk, saying, “We have not determined whether these people have committed any crime. Why are you treating him so harshly?” They put Gohng-shin’s feet in stocks and placed him in the cell with the others.
  • Later, when the others were interrogated, their answers differed. Some said they followed Sahng-jeh-nim to learn about dao. Others said they were deceived into following Him. After the interrogation, everyone was locked back in the cell.
  • Resolving the Bitterness and Grief of a Japanese Princess
  • Wounds and blood covered Sahng-jeh-nim’s sacred body. The disciples could not bear the sight.
  • 10 Unable to dress, Sahng-jeh-nim passed the night with His clothes just draped over His body. The next morning, when the disciples examined Him, all of the wounds had incredibly been cured and His face was as peaceful as usual.
  • 11 Later, Sahng-jeh-nim said to Gohng-shin, “This is all to resolve the bitterness and grief of a Japanese princess.
  • 12 After the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592, the monk Sa-myung-dahng went to Japan to bring back three hundred Japanese skins. ‘Take my skin first,’ the princess said, then killed herself, becoming an embittered spirit.
  • 13 She brought the Japanese military police to Korea, planning to kill all of you after My death. To resolve her bitterness and grief, I allowed this to happen.”
