Filled with joy, In-su was about to greet Jeung-san, but Jeung-san ignored him and walked away.
In-su scampered after Jeung-san, who kept scolding him loudly, “Go home, you rascal!”
Not discouraged, In-su kept following Jeung-san over the next two months. Finally, Jeung-san bestowed the name ‘Bohng-nahm’ upon In-su and allowed In-su to be His follower.
One day, Jeung-san told Bohng-nahm, “If you are going to die believing pathetically, do not believe at all.
Jeung-san also said, “When people commit transgressions in this world, they may think that if it is done in secret, nothing may come of it. But when people who have committed transgressions go to the spirit world, all of their deeds are revealed.

Jeung-san observed the flow of this great war that heralded the coming of the Later Heaven.
General Jun was forty years old at the time, and Jeung-san was a young man of twenty-four.
That year, deeply worried that the world was becoming worse every day, Jeung-san resolved to save people everywhere from pain and suffering.
Jeung-san later left home on a journey, and after He had been gone a long while, the Sacred Mother grew anxious, concerned for His safety in such troubling times. The Sacred Father sent Yu Duk-ahn to look for Him.
Later, when Jeung-san returned home to Gaeng-mahng Village, He said to Duk-ahn in a soothing voice, “In these harsh times, you were faced with great danger and suffering. You do not need to look for Me.” Duk-ahn then realized he had been saved by Jeung-san’s power.
|
1:22 | | 1 | Jeung-san foresaw that the Eastern Learning Army would not succeed. One night in July 1894, without the light of a candle, He immersed Himself in deep meditation.
That winter, as predicted, the Eastern Learning Army was crushed by government troops. Those who followed Jeung-san’s words were saved, and those who followed the Eastern Learning Army perished.
Those who believed Jeung-san later called Him a divine person. They said He was a person who knew everything without studying.
|
1:23 | | 1 | In October of that year, Jeung-san went to Dohng-gohl Village in Tae-in and visited the local Eastern Learning leader, Bahk Yoon-guh.
Jeung-san sat on the porch, introduced Himself to Yoon-guh, and said,
Ahn Pil-sung received the order to join the troops in Nahm-wun County. Passing through Jung-ja Village in Jeonju County on his way to Nahm-wun, he unexpectedly met Gahng Jeung-san.
Jeung-san ordered something to drink and then said to Pil-sung, “It’s a cold day. You had better rest here and wait. In this town, you’ll find the person you expected to meet in Nahm-wun.”
Both Jeung-san and Pil-sung went outside and saw thousands of Eastern Learning soldiers. The troops fired cannons and held up their spears. They carried banners of five colors that said, “Uphold the nation to comfort the people,” and “Expel the Westerners. Expel the Japanese.” The wide-open field was flooded with a wave of Eastern Learning troops.
It was under these circumstances that Jeung-san and Pil-sung met Du-hyun.
Accompanied by Pil-sung, Jeung-san followed the marching army from far behind. Arriving in Su-tohng-mohk Village, He said, “Today, there will be bloodshed in Jeonju. We should sleep here tonight and go there tomorrow.” The glorious sight of the marching Eastern Learning troops made Pil-sung more eager to take part.
|

The next day, Jeung-san and Pil-sung arrived in Jeonju and found a quiet place to stay.
Pil-sung, whose heart burned with the patriotic desire to save his country from the encroachment of foreign forces, strongly believed a new world would open through the teachings of Eastern Learning. He would not be swayed by Jeung-san’s advice.
That night, Jeung-san told Pil-sung, “When you go out into the street, there will be something to see.”
Pil-sung was greatly disturbed. Pointing at the heads, Jeung-san said gravely, “Just look at them―don’t behave rashly in these dangerous times. Please be careful on the march.”
Jeung-san bade farewell to Pil-sung.
Jeung-san, aware of their impending annihilation, went directly to General Jun’s base camp and warned him, “You will only end up killing many innocent people for nothing. Stop this war.” But General Jun would not listen.
In Yuh-sahn, Pil-sung met Jeung-san for the third time. Jeung-san was standing at the side of the road looking at him.
“Are you marching out now?” Jeung-san asked. “Yes, we are,” Pil-sung said. “This will be a devastating battle,” Jeung-san warned. “Be extremely careful.”
