• Sahng-jeh-nim’s Spirit Visits Su-bu-nim
  • One night in early September, 1910, when Su-bu-nim was chanting a mantra, She saw through Her spiritual eye auspicious blue and red qi arched like a rainbow.
  • It stretched above the road from Dae-heung Village to the mountain just beyond Gu-rit-gohl Village, where She saw a temporary grave covered with thatch.
  • The coffin was stained with fluids from the corpse. This vision left Her with a strange feeling.
  • The next night, Sahng-jeh-nim came into Her room and said, “I have died. Why haven’t You visited My grave?”
  • Su-bu-nim asked, “Why do You distress Me with such ominous words?”
  • “I have, indeed, died.” He caressed Her back and, holding Her hand, loudly sang a farewell song. He then rose, walked out the door, and disappeared.
  • Seeking Sahng-jeh-nim’s Grave
  • Suspicious of what She had previously been told, Su-bu-nim ordered Yoon-gyung to go to Ahn Nae-sung’s house and bring back Gyung-suk. She questioned Gyung-suk about the whereabouts of Sahng-jeh-nim and declared, “We will go and find Him.”
  • Gyung-suk replied, “Our Teacher recently returned from Nanjing and is now in Gu-rit-gohl Village conducting a work of renewal. Only one person is allowed to attend on Him. Since He will not let anyone else see Him, it is impossible for us to visit.”
  • There was nothing She could do, so She spent the night in anguish. Early the next morning, She packed a container with white facial powder, a dose of poison, and a red pouch given to Her by Sahng-jeh-nim.
  • 10 Without letting anyone know that She was leaving, She stepped out of the gate. The morning air was chill as She walked past the fields that stretched north, dimly lit by the dawn.
  • 11 She followed the way shown to Her in Her brilliant vision the night before. Once on Her way, She quickened Her pace and in half a day managed to cover a distance of eighty lee.
