• Shin Wun-il Is Saved from a Fatal Disease
  • Sahng-jeh-nim visited Shin Wun-il at his house. “I have come to save you from dying of a tumor.”
  • Surprised, Wun-il said, “But there is nothing wrong with me.”
  • “Yes, there is,” Sahng-jeh-nim insisted. “Go buy some noodles and boil them.”
  • Wun-il did as he was told. Sahng-jeh-nim had him eat a bowl of noodles and then asked, “How is your stomach?”
  • “I feel nothing wrong in particular,” answered Wun-il. Sahng-jeh-nim had him eat another bowl and then asked the same question. This time Wun-il answered, “My stomach is sour.”
  • “Go have a bowel movement and examine your stool,” Sahng-jeh-nim instructed. Wun-il found that his excrement was all pus.
  • Curing Gyung-suk’s Concubine
  • Gyung-suk’s concubine accidentally pricked the tip of her finger with a needle, causing an infection that led to numbness in her arm and eventually paralysis on one side of her body.
  • To cure her, Sahng-jeh-nim wrote the name of each year in the sexagenary cycle and said, “Read them aloud, pressing each one with the affected finger as hard as you can.”
  • He then told her to walk about holding a cup of wine. This helped her blood circulate, and before long, she was completely healed.
