- Sahng-jeh-nim’s Appearance and Character
- 1 Jeung-san Sahng-jeh-nim had a big birthmark between His eyebrows, the mark of a buddha. The lines on His left palm formed the character im (壬 north), and the lines on His right palm formed the character mu (戊 star).
- 2 His hair was jet-black and lustrous. His elegant beard, which curled closely against His face, became long and wide when He washed.
- 3 He was well-built and His face was well-proportioned.
- 4 His neck was never bent, and He walked gracefully.
- 5 There was a big red spot on the inside of His lower lip. Showing it to His disciples, He said, “The Maitreya statue at Geum-sahn Temple has a sacred pearl in its hand. I have one in My mouth.”
- 6 Ordinarily, Sahng-jeh-nim acted in a dignified manner, but at times He seemed to be a lunatic. His ways were difficult to fathom.
- 7 For example, He would wear His socks on the wrong feet or wear a conical bamboo hat with a hole in the crown.
- 8 People were drawn to Sahng-jeh-nim because of His genuine dignity and warmth.
- 9 The disciples agreed that, rather than being like a strict father, He was like a loving older brother.
- 10 Jeung-san Sahng-jeh-nim, who came as a human being to open the age of human nobility in this time nearing the great gae-byuk of the Later Heaven,
- 11 was just, full of love, broad-minded, resolute, unpretentious, magnificent, and sincere. He was unaffected by others’ standards.
