- A Woman’s Bitterness and Grief Reaches Heaven
- 1 One day, a woman called on Sahng-jeh-nim while He was busy performing a work of renewing heaven and earth.
- 2 A disciple asked her, “What has brought you here?”
- 3 She answered, “In my husband’s family, there has been only one son in each of the last three generations, and my son is now seriously ill. Since no one else can save him, I have come to ask your Teacher for a cure.”
- 4 But, because Sahng-jeh-nim was engaged in His work, the disciples refused to convey her wish and sent her away.
- 5 She went home bearing a deep grudge against Sahng-jeh-nim, and the qi of her bitterness reached heaven. Consequently, Sahng-jeh-nim’s work did not proceed correctly.
- 6 When someone reported what had happened, Sahng-jeh-nim stopped the work, rose to His feet, and said, “Let us go to the woman’s house.”
- 7 When they got there, Sahng-jeh-nim shouted at the dying boy, “You rascal! How dare you not get up when your Father has come!” Startled, the boy rose instantly.
- 8 “The boy’s father is over there,” a disciple said. “What did You mean by that?”
- 9 “Ask the boy’s parents,” Sahng-jeh-nim replied. “To have him, the woman made offerings to the Maitreya statue at Geum-sahn Temple for three years.”
- 10 When the boy’s parents were asked, they confirmed what Sahng-jeh-nim had said.
