• Relieving a Woman of Labor Pains
  • 11 Sahng-jeh-nim once stayed at a house in Daegu in which a woman was in labor.
  • 12 “Is someone dying?” He asked. The man of the house answered, “My wife is about to give birth and cannot bear the pain.”
  • 13 “Do you think you two can deliver a baby by yourselves?” Sahng-jeh-nim exclaimed. “Can’t you see the sahm-shin over there?” He then asked for a bowl of water. He sprinkled water three times toward the room in which the woman lay.
  • 14 Immediately, her cries of pain stopped, and the baby was born.

  • 16 Sahng-jeh-nim usually took Ho-yun on His travels and had Bohng-nahm travel with Hyung-yul.
  • 17 Sometimes, Sahng-jeh-nim journeyed with Ho-yun and Bohng-nahm, or just with Bohng-nahm on rare occasions.
  • 18 Bohng-nahm always carried his traveling companions’ bundles. He usually slept near the adults or by himself outside on the porch.
