- Sahng-jeh-nim Reprimands the Spirits in Heaven
- 1 In June 1907, Sahng-jeh-nim went to an inn near Dae-heung Village.
- 2 To Gyung-suk and some other disciples, He said, “If there is no lightning today, insects will destroy the crops. Watch carefully for lightning.”
- 3 All day, everyone waited attentively for lightning, but by dusk there had been none.
- 4 Sahng-jeh-nim shouted toward the sky, “Why have heaven and earth not dealt with the disaster about to befall people? I, Myself, will look after their well-being.”
- 5 He took a hay bundle and cut from it a patch of straws as long as His fourth finger, then burned the straws in a firepot. Suddenly, lightning flashed in the north.
- 6 He reprimanded heaven and earth again. “Do you think only people in the north should live and the rest should die?” Lightning started flashing in all directions.
- 7 About one hour later, He commanded, “Stop!” The lightning stopped.
- 8 “Now that the disaster has been averted,” He said, “this year’s crops will be plentiful and everybody will be happy.”
