• Sahng-jeh-nim Prepares Many Flags
  • Sahng-jeh-nim had the disciples prepare flags of three different sizes to be used on the third day of the third lunar month.
  • He had them make a large flag along with four slightly smaller flags. He also had them make about thirty even-smaller flags.
  • A Work of Renewal Concerning the Teams of Six Dao Workers
  • Finally, the third day of the third lunar month came. Sahng-jeh-nim prepared some gourds and a bow. He had the disciples hold the flags and had Bohng-nahm hold a quiver of arrows.
  • They had four horses. Sahng-jeh-nim had Hyung-yul, Bohng-nahm, and another person each ride one, and Sahng-jeh-nim Himself rode a white horse with a tasseled red cloth.
  • When they were about to leave, Ho-yun said, “What about me? What about me?” Sahng-jeh-nim had a man named Chey carry her on his back.
  • When they arrived at the archery range, there were many commander spirits on horseback waiting for them.
  • The spirits appraised Sahng-jeh-nim and His group, noting how their number was vastly exceeded by their own troop, how their horses were mangy, and how they carried only a few gourds. The spirits thought, “We could beat them with one hand.”
  • Sahng-jeh-nim ordered the disciples to plant the largest flag in the middle of the archery range and plant the four smaller flags around the largest flag in the four directions of east, west, south, and north.
  • The smallest flags were planted outside the perimeter of the four flags.
  • 10 Sahng-jeh-nim placed the gourds on the ground and chanted a mantra. Out of one gourd came countless tiny soldiers wearing helmets and holding flags, swords, and spears. From a second gourd, little horses clad in armor came out one after another like maggots.
  • 11 Sahng-jeh-nim put them all into Hyun-mu Pond and they became regular-sized soldiers and horses. The soldiers, dressed in black and carrying flags, swords, and spears, mounted the horses and fell into rank. Their number was more than triple that of the other side.
  • Sahng-jeh-nim Will Return to Heaven When the Day Arrives
  • 12 Sahng-jeh-nim changed into a red and blue garment. He told Hyung-yul to put on a black garment and told Bohng-nahm to wear the same garment as He did.
  • 13 “Why do You have him wear those clothes?” Hyung-yul asked Sahng-jeh-nim.
  • 14 “The boy should dress like Me.”
  • 15 The head of the commander spirits asked Sahng-jeh-nim, “When will You return to heaven?”
  • 16 “It will be soon enough,” Sahng-jeh-nim answered. “I will go when the day arrives. When you tell a baby in the womb to come out, does it come out? That, too, happens when the time arrives.”
“I understand,” the spirit answered. “We will leave now.”
  • 17 Sahng-jeh-nim said, “You are leaving without having a match?”
The spirit answered, “We will do as You please.”
