• All Nations Must Work Together
  • Sahng-jeh-nim said to His disciples, “All nations must hold hands to achieve harmony.
  • If one hand claps, there is no sound. Only when two hands clap together is there sound.
  • Above all else, we must bring our minds together. Only then can we achieve harmony.
  • You cannot even know how things will proceed within your household over the course of one day. How could it be easy to manage the affairs of the world? The hasty complain that My work is too slow.”
  • He then said, “The things you do not know, you should learn on your own. Your ears and your eyes should be wide open. If your eyes are open and your ears are closed, it is of no use.”
  • Whenever Sahng-jeh-nim met people in other countries, He would ask, “Will you put all your heads together or not?” And He would receive their confirmation.
  • A Work of Renewal Concerning the Tae-bohng Flag
  • In the spring of 1909, Sahng-jeh-nim traveled with Su-bu-nim and His disciples to Seoul and then to Yun-baek Plain in Hwahng-hae Province. Next, they traveled to Sohng-ahk Mountain, adjacent Gae-sung City, and there Sahng-jeh-nim conducted a work of renewal. People from a nearby village followed them up the mountain and attended on Sahng-jeh-nim during the work.
  • Sahng-jeh-nim ordered Gahp-chil, “Bring Me twenty-one ja of silk.” Sahng-jeh-nim ordered Gohng-ooh, “Bring Me some cinnabar paint.” Gahp-chil and Gohng-ooh brought these things to Sahng-jeh-nim.
  • Sahng-jeh-nim had some disciples spread the silk on the ground and stitch the borders. He told other disciples, “Make a loop with straw ropes.”
  • 10 He ordered Gohng-ooh, “Go find Me the biggest bamboo tree in the area. Do not harm the roots; bring it whole.”
  • 11 Su-bu-nim found the trunk of a jujube tree that had been struck by lightning. Though the log was so thick a man could not wrap his arms around it and so heavy it was difficult for even several men to lift, she wrapped it in Her skirt and carried it to Sahng-jeh-nim.
  • 12 He made the log into a seal by carving large characters onto one end.
  • 13 While He worked, the disciples sang and danced in delight.
  • 14 Then, they chanted the Tae-eul and Jin-aek mantras, shaking their bodies and rolling on the ground.
  • 15 After He finished carving the log, Sahng-jeh-nim applied cinnabar paint to the seal, lifted the entire log, and stamped the seal on the center of the silk, imprinting two characters :
  • 太 (tae)
    鳳 (bohng)
  • 16 On the flag’s four corners, Sahng-jeh-nim wrote the characters one (一), two (二), three (三), and four (四). Under each number, He wrote the names of many countries in their respective languages,
  • 17 and then He had the disciples tie the Tae-bohng Flag to the bamboo tree that served as a flagstaff.
  • A Work of Renewal Involving a Procession to Taejeon
  • 18 Gohng-ooh held up the flag and danced energetically as he marched forward. He was followed by Sahng-jeh-nim, Su-bu-nim, and the disciples, who carried the straw loop.
  • 19 Everyone in the procession danced exuberantly.
  • 20 “Hoom-chee Hoom-chee Tae-eul-chun Sahng-wun-goon Hoom-nee-chee-ya-doh-rae Hoom-nee-hahm-nee-sa-pa-ha, Shee-chun-ju Jo-hwa-jung Yung-seh-bool-mahng Mahn-sa-jee,” they sang as they shook their bodies in thorough enjoyment.
  • 21 Afterward, various members of the group received the energy of spirits, causing them to jump up and down. Gohng-ooh was also high-spirited as he waved the flag, chanted the mantras, and led the way toward the Gae-sung marketplace.
  • 22 It was market day, and people in the marketplace saw the jumping marchers and the huge flag fluttering far away. They uttered in bewilderment, “Look over there! Look! Look at that!”
  • 23 Adults strained to read the flag’s characters, and children cheered as they ran to the flag.
  • 24 Sahng-jeh-nim then said, as if talking to Himself, “They will resolve their bitterness and grief.” Seeing the children, Su-bu-nim laughed without saying a word.
  • 25 As Sahng-jeh-nim’s group finally entered the Gae-sung marketplace, clouds of people quickly clustered around the procession, leaving no room to move a step. Amid the commotion, Gahp-chil stepped forward and tried to restore order.
  • 26 Meanwhile, the procession was followed by people, mostly children, who imitated the disciples’ chanting and also tried hopping around like them.
  • 27 Gahp-chil taught mantras to the children and protected them from being swept away by the torrent of people.
  • A Sudden Crossing of Sa-chun River
  • 28 The procession swelled into a vast following in no time. All of Gae-sung City became uproarious as the crowd left the marketplace and moved toward Sa-chun River.
  • 29 The police dispersed the crowd. In their desire to arrest “suspicious people,” the police rushed toward Sahng-jeh-nim.
  • 30 Using His power of creative change, Sahng-jeh-nim quickly took Su-bu-nim and the disciples across the river and faded from sight.
  • Let Us Go to Tae-bohng Mountain
  • 31 After Sahng-jeh-nim, Su-bu-nim, and the disciples crossed the river, they traveled through mountain ranges and emerged on the coast of the East Sea.
  • 32 Then, they went to Ool-leung Island and had lunch on Sung-in Peak. Afterward, they traveled to Gum-dahn Mountain in Gyung-ghee Province and offered a ritual to the mountain spirit.
  • 33 After the ritual, Sahng-jeh-nim suddenly rose to His feet and shouted, “Let us go to Tae-bohng Mountain!”
  • Planting the Flag on Tae-bohng Mountain
  • 34 Sahng-jeh-nim, Su-bu-nim, and the disciples arrived in Taejeon. While they climbed Tae-bohng Mountain, Gohng-ooh chanted and enthusiastically waved the Tae-bohng Flag in rhythm with the mantras.
  • 35 The other disciples continued to chant the mantras without being told by Sahng-jeh-nim.
  • 36 When they reached the summit, Sahng-jeh-nim told Gohng-ooh, “Give Me the flag.” Sahng-jeh-nim then took the flagstaff, which was a bamboo tree with the roots intact, and drove it into the summit.
  • 37 He ordered the disciples to bring a large clay pot, then He filled it with fresh water and placed it before the flag as an offering.
  • 38 Sahng-jeh-nim and Su-bu-nim then bowed to the flag with Their hands pressed together in front of Their faces.
  • 39 Next, the disciples bowed as well. Seeing the flag fluttering in the wind, the disciples believed that the large flag, twenty-one ja in width, could be seen distinctly from anywhere in Taejeon.
