- Ohk-hwahng Sahng-jeh, the Ruling God
- 1 One day, Sahng-jeh-nim said to Hyung-yul, “I mastered the writing of the heavens in 1900 and attained enlightenment in 1901.
- 2 While I was meditating at Dae-wun Temple, Bahk Geum-gohk attended on Me.”
- 3 On another occasion, Sahng-jeh-nim said, “I am Ohk-hwahng Sahng-jeh.
- 4 I am Three Li () Fire in the South.
- 5 I gain the world on horseback.”
- The Dragon and Phoenix Program
- 6 In April 1903, Sahng-jeh-nim conducted works of renewal during His stay at Chung-nyun Hermitage in Ahn-yahng Village on Mo-ahk Mountain. The monk Bahk Geum-gohk attended on Him.
- 7 On the eleventh of April, Sahng-jeh-nim finished a work of renewal before sunrise. As the morning sun rose afterward, Sahng-jeh-nim wrote in large characters the words dragon and phoenix. The dragon character was upside down, above the phoenix character.
- 8 He wrote, in small characters on the left side of the paper, “Shakyamuni Buddha is noble alone.” Then, He gave this paper to the monk.
- 9 Geum-gohk received the paper respectfully and kept it like a treasure, wrapping it first in a clean sheet of paper and then in silk.
- Riding a Horse
- 10 One day, while going somewhere with Hyung-yul and Ho-yun, Sahng-jeh-nim picked up a stick. “I am riding a horse like children do,” He said as He put the stick between His legs and dragged it behind Him.
- 11 “What kind of horse are You riding?” Ho-yun chortled. “You just picked up a stick, poked it between Your legs, and started dragging it.”
- 12 Suddenly, from somewhere, a shout was heard, “I am riding a horse!” Ho-yun looked and saw that Sahng-jeh-nim was far ahead in the distance.
- 13 “How did You do that?” Ho-yun asked in astonishment.Looking back, Sahng-jeh-nim said, “You should come like this as well.”
- 14 “Even if I died and came back to life, I could not follow You!”
