- Ho-yun’s Offering to the Lord of Heaven
- 1 From the time Ho-yun was five until she was thirteen, Sahng-jeh-nim brought her along in conducting the work of renewal. She was with Him until He ascended.
- 2 When Sahng-jeh-nim slept in Hyung-yul’s guest quarters, she would also sleep there. If He slept in the main quarters, she would sleep in the main quarters as well. When Sahng-jeh-nim washed His face, He would also wash hers.
- 3 He always had her wear boy’s clothes and had her go with Him to bear witness everywhere He went in the work of renewal.
- 4 In the spring of 1909, Sahng-jeh-nim had Ho-yun bathe in preparation for a great offering to heaven and earth.
- 5 Hearing of the offering, many disciples gathered, filling the front yard of the medicine room and the surrounding roads as far back as the village entrance.
- 6 Sahng-jeh-nim had a large mat spread on the ground, then laid upon it a smaller straw mat. On the smaller mat, He placed a boiled dog and pig, each with a knife stuck into it, and a huge pot of wine.
- 7 Sahng-jeh-nim had Ho-yun stand next to Him as He performed the ritual, and the disciples took part, following Sahng-jeh-nim’s gestures.
- 8 After the ritual, Sahng-jeh-nim told Ho-yun, “Now that you have offered your life to the Lord of Heaven, you will never die.”
- 9 He continued, “When a new bud sprouts from an old tree, the person of dao who is to conduct the harvest will come forth. The person who will save your life will come forth.
- 10 Those preceding become old trees, but a new bud sprouts from them. Then, you will have new life. That is how the person who is to save your life will come forth.”
