- Hahk-bohng Recovers the Lost Ramie Cloth
- 5 In 1883, when Hahk-bohng was thirteen, the Sacred Father’s close friend, Yu Duk-ahn, took Him to Jung-eup market to sell a large roll of ramie cloth made by the Sacred Mother.
- 6 Because Duk-ahn had to attend to some other business at the market, Hahk-bohng sat next to a fabric store, laid down the cloth, and waited. When He looked away for a moment, the cloth disappeared.
- 7 Hearing of this, Duk-ahn came back hurriedly and looked for it; but night was already approaching, and he could not think of a way to find the lost cloth among the crowd. Seeing no alternative, he suggested they return home.
- 8 Hahk-bohng refused to follow and immediately left for Go-chahng County, saying, “I’ll be back tomorrow.” With no other choice, Duk-ahn returned alone.
- 9 The next day, Hahk-bohng returned home with the money for the cloth and gave it to His mother. Amazed, His family questioned Him about it.
- 10 “Having lost what mother had spent a great deal of time and effort to make, I thought she’d be very disappointed. I knew the market would be open today in Go-chahng, and I was sure the cloth would be there; so I went there immediately and, fortunately, was able to recover the cloth and sell it.”
- 11 The day before going to the market, Hahk-bohng had placed a dot with black ink on the cloth. Using it as evidence, He was able to get the cloth back.
