• Living Ghosts, Dead Ghosts
  • On one Winter Solstice, Sahng-jeh-nim had bowls of red bean porridge placed in each of the four directions and then ate from each one.
  • Little Ho-yun asked, “Why are You eating that if it was put there for ghosts?”
  • “A living ghost is scary,” Sahng-jeh-nim said. “A dead ghost is not scary.”
  • “It is a dead ghost that is scary. How can a living ghost be scary?”
Without answering, Sahng-jeh-nim said, “The ghosts that receive food are different from others. Each ghost has its origin.”
  • “Please teach me about that,” Ho-yun asked sweetly.
“There are some things I can’t teach you. You want Me to teach you all about ghosts?”
