• Works of Renewal Involving Horseback Riding and Archery
  • Once in a while, Sahng-jeh-nim went horseback riding and practiced archery in Nae-ju-pyung Village.
  • Before setting out on horseback, He would cut out a piece of white paper, paint one side black and the other red, and attach it to a pole that He carried.
  • Some disciples followed Him, carrying His bow and arrows as if they were squires.
  • When on horseback, He sometimes lay flat on His back or stomach, but did not fall off.
  • He often talked to the horse and sometimes said, “Open your mouth.” Then, He fed it eggs.
  • Once, the horse slipped and they both tumbled to the ground. Sahng-jeh-nim patted the horse on the haunch, saying, “You made Me fall.”
  • The horse kneeled on its front legs and nodded. Sahng-jeh-nim said, “Bowing? Are you bowing?”
  • On one occasion, He had a coin with a hole in the center fastened to the center of a target. From twenty or thirty paces, Sahng-jeh-nim shot an arrow straight through the hole.
  • Seeing Sahng-jeh-nim so pleased with Himself, the disciples tried to copy the feat; but no matter how many arrows they shot, they could only hit the board around the coin.
