- Curbing Nahm-ghee’s Ambition
- 1 Accompanied by Gim Hyung-yul, Sahng-jeh-nim went to the house of His brother-in-law, Jung Nahm-ghee, in Nae-ju-pyung Village. He said to Nahm-ghee, “We will meditate here in your house.”
- 2 “Then, I will join the meditation,” said Nahm-ghee. Sahng-jeh-nim consented.
- 3 Great spirits guarded them as they meditated together, but after a while, the spirit of an old monk entered the room and commanded all the spirits to guard Nahm-ghee.
- 4 Sahng-jeh-nim watched carefully. The spirit of an old man came and severely reprehended the monk, “How can you violate the order of heaven and earth?”
- 5 The monk’s spirit fled and the other spirits gathered around Sahng-jeh-nim again.
- 6 Sahng-jeh-nim thought to Himself, “This is a sign that Nahm-ghee is using enhanced spiritual power with the unreasonable intent of rebelling on a grand scale.”
- 7 Sahng-jeh-nim had a jesting spirit possess Hyung-yul. All of a sudden, Hyung-yul went crazy and started speaking abusively to Nahm-ghee.
- 8 Nahm-ghee left the room, saying, “I heard this meditation can cure even insanity. Now, I see it causes insanity.”
- 10 After the meditation, Sahng-jeh-nim told Hyung-yul to get a long acupuncture needle. Sahng-jeh-nim secretly stuck it above the front gate of Nahm-ghee’s house.
