• Sahng-jeh-nim Visits Hyung-yul’s House
  • On April 13, Hyung-yul was inside his house, located in an area of Ha-oon Village called Jeh-bee-chahng Valley,
  • when he heard his name called from the direction of Geum-sahn Temple, which lay beyond a mountain.
  • Following the sound, he went outside and headed in that direction.
  • On the path leading to the temple, he found Sahng-jeh-nim sitting on top of Stone Rainbow Gate, still calling his name.
  • Filled with joy, Hyung-yul led Him to his house and said, “Teacher, please come in.”
  • Sahng-jeh-nim asked, “This place is called Jeh-bee-chahng Valley, is it not?”
“That is right. How did You know?”
  • “Though the roads in the mountainous Shu State were steep, Han Xin is said to have known them. How could one performing the work under heaven be ignorant of this place?” Then, He said, “Let us sit under the persimmon tree.” The two sat facing each other.
  • Hyung-yul Pledges Commitment Three Times
  • Sahng-jeh-nim asked Hyung-yul, “Are you willing to undertake a work that will ruin two families but let the whole world succeed?”
  • “I am willing, even if ten families are ruined,” Hyung-yul answered. “If the whole world succeeds at the cost of ten families, will those ten families not succeed after all?”
  • 10 “Good, you are right, but can all people be like you? It is difficult work.” After Hyung-yul had assured Him three times, Sahng-jeh-nim went into one of the rooms to sit down.
  • 11 At that time, Hyung-yul’s wife had just given birth to their third son. Suddenly, she started screaming due to abdominal pain.
  • 12 Sahng-jeh-nim sighed. “Such are the sufferings of life.” He told Hyung-yul to get two packets of an herbal medicine for her. She took the medicine and her severe pain miraculously disappeared.
  • 13 Grateful, she begged Him to stay as long as He could.
  • 14 Smiling, Sahng-jeh-nim said, “It is natural that people think of others only after they themselves are made happy.” He gladly accepted her earnest invitation.
  • 15 At the time, Sahng-jeh-nim was thirty-two and Hyung-yul was forty-one. Though Hyung-yul was the elder of the two, when attending on Sahng-jeh-nim, Hyung-yul felt it improper to pass directly in front of Him.
