• Hungry During Childhood
  • Sahng-jeh-nim acted freely in Ho-yun’s company and often laughed, but sometimes He would scold her for misbehaving.
  • Once, at meal time, He said to her, “My little Ho-yun, how are we going to fill our guts today?” Without answering, she looked at His face.
  • He continued, “When I was a child, I was very hungry, too.”
  • One day, Sahng-jeh-nim said to Ho-yun, “Once, when you and I visited the eastern gate, I picked up a radish from the ground.
  • You said it was dirty and wouldn’t eat it, so I ate the skin and gave you the rest.
  • You ate the whole thing without offering to share.”
  • “Yes, I did that because I was silly.”
  • “You did it because you were silly?” Sahng-jeh-nim said. “You will see a good world in the future.”
Ho-yun asked, “What will I see?”
