• The Great Il-ggoon Who Ends Confusing Dharma
  • One day, Sahng-jeh-nim sat upright on a wooden platform beside the Ha-ma-jung-ee Crossroads in Tae-in County.
  • Before long, a man wearing a headband and rolled-up trousers walked past. The man carried a whip.
  • Cracking the whip, he walked around, repeatedly shouting, “Capture every thief in the world!”
  • Bahk Gohng-ooh felt it was rude to act that way in front of someone as venerable as Sahng-jeh-nim and was about to rebuke the man, but Sahng-jeh-nim stopped Gohng-ooh with a stern look.
  • Realizing there must be a reason for all of this, Gohng-ooh humbly waited.
  • After a long time had passed, Sahng-jeh-nim said, “Gohng-ooh, give him all the money you have.”
  • Without a word, the man accepted Gohng-ooh’s money, bowed to Sahng-jeh-nim, and left.
  • “Who was that man?” a disciple asked.
  • “He is from the far side of the northern heaven,” answered Sahng-jeh-nim. “He plans to carry out the work under heaven.”
  • 10 “Will he capture all the thieves of the world?”
  • 11 “Yes, he will capture all the thieves of the world.”
  • 12 “What is his name?”
  • 13 Sahng-jeh-nim said, “When the time comes, he will be one of the family, and you will be joyful together.”
  • Water That Looks Like a Horse
  • 14 In the summer of 1907, there was a disastrous flood in which rice paddies and fields were submerged and streams swelled to depths surpassing the height of a person. Many injuries and deaths resulted.
  • 15 With Ho-yun, Sahng-jeh-nim went to Nahm-chun Bridge in Jeonju, where the water had become deep and rapid.
  • 16 While walking on the water against the current, Sahng-jeh-nim asked Ho-yun, “Can you ride a horse, sitting on it backward?”
  • 17 “That’s water,” Ho-yun said. “It isn’t a horse.”
“To Me, it looks like a horse,” said Sahng-jeh-nim.
  • 18 Yelling, “Yah!” again and again, He acted as if riding a horse.
